Let's say you have a web cam, and your friend has a webcam as well. You would like to have a video chat with him. How would you do that?
Well, at first, both of you need to make sure that you have a internet connection. After that, you need to use a video chat program.

We will use the examples of the two most popular chat programs: Skype and Google.

In order to use Google chat, make sure you are signed up, or already have a Gmail account. You need to navigate to the web site and then click download Google Talk. Once you download that, make sure you go back to the website and install the video chat plug-in. Your computer might ask you to restart your internet browser. Once that it complete, you should be able to chat through Gmail or Igoogle.

In order to use Skype, you need to go to Skype's main page (www.skype.com), and click the join button to register yourself. Once you complete that, you need to get skype on top of the page, and click Get Skype for windows. Click Download Now. Make sure you follow the prompts for installing the skype. Once you finish installing, you simply login with your e-mail and password, and should be ready to chat.
